The Overview

The Ducati 1299 was introduced at the 2014 Milan Motorcycle Show as a replacement for the 1199 which had been in production since 2012. The 1299 saw engine displacement bumped to 1,285 cc or 78.4 cubic inches. Other notable upgrades were a revised IMU as well as the addition of “Öhlins Smart EC suspension” on the S model, which allowed for the addition of rider selected driving modes to easily adapt to road conditions.

In celebration of their 90th year in existence, Ducati released a special version of the 1299 Panigale, the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario towards the tail end of 2016 as a 2017 model year. Limited to just 500 examples produced for worldwide markets, this special edition superbike received custom livery along with a host of other upgrades, both cosmetic as well as mechanically. Each one of the examples was fitted with gold-colored forged Marchesini wheels as well as matching gold-colored Akrapovic exhaust. Solid aluminum alloy top triple clamp and steering head inserts allow the front wheel to be shifted forward by 5mm, giving it the same geometry as the track-focused Panigale R. The addition of a lithium-ion battery as well as carbon fiber trim pieces scattered throughout the motorcycle helped to bring overall weight down. Ducati used the release of the Anniversario edition to roll out its EVO version of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) as well as Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC). These rider aids pull information from the Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), allowing the motorcycle to make precise and calculated decisions that aid in the rider’s safety as well as their ability to control the bike. One byproduct of this new traction controlling system is the addition of slide control which allows the throttle to control the amount of rear-wheel slide, meaning the rider can drift the rear wheel while in a turn. Given its scant production numbers, symbolic nature, and pavement pounding performance the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario was a very special motorcycle from its launch and will remain an excellent addition to any motorcycle collection centering around special Italian produced examples.

Included with the sale of this Ducati are the original books, tools, as well as available service records.

This particular example, chassis number ZDM14BYW7HB007089, is a 2017 Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario. It is a one-owner example and shows only 475 total miles from new. This Anniversario edition is the 249th example of only 500 ever produced. As a whole, this 1299 remains in excellent condition and has clearly been cared for with utmost scrutiny. Purchased new by the one and only owner, this motorcycle has lived its entire life in Monterey, California and has always been properly stored. It was serviced and cared for as needed and remains in perfectly proper order. Service records, which are included with the sale, show that a 600-mile service was completed on 12/05/2019 along with addressing an open recall for “Front Brake Master Cylinder Failure”. At the time of the service, it was noted that the lower right side fairing had a crack underneath the brake pedal, one of the only real issues of note on and otherwise flawless example.

The condition of this 1299 coincides nicely with the extremely low mileage. The fairing retains excellent color and the decals all remain in good condition. Factory placed warning stickers are still in place on the tail section and swing-arm. The plexi-style windscreen does show some very minor light scratching from normal use. The seat shows as practically brand new, in accordance with the low number of miles traveled. Factory style markings are present on bolts and hardware throughout the bike and the suspension remains clean and tidy. Circling back to the damage noted during the last servicing, it appears that the bike may have tipped over while at a rest, causing the cracking of the fairing as well as a small scuff on the engine case and bar end on the riders right side. These very minor blemishes could easily be fixed should the next owner desire and do not detract from the rideability of the motorcycle in the slightest. The low miles and well cared for nature mean that this example is very strong mechanically. The engine fires right to life with a demonic growl and settles into a loud but proper idle. Although we have done very minimal testing with this 1299, the transmission appears to move as it should between gears and the brakes work as they should. This Ducati wears a set of Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsa SP tires that show good compound and even wearing with plenty of life left in them. Overall, this 2017 Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario remains in excellent condition and given its low mileage and rarity, is sure to remain a highly collectible example of one of Ducati’s premier super-bikes.
