The Overview
The idea for the Ducati Monster was born when heads of the company asked for a new design that “displayed a strong Ducati heritage but which was easy to ride and not a sports bike”. Talented Ducati designer Miguel Angel Galluzzi set about drafting plans and in 1993 the now-infamous “naked” Ducati was introduced to an adoring public. The exposed trellis frame became the bike’s most signature and iconic differentiating feature. The Monster has been offered with many different 90 degree V-twin power plant options throughout the years, from a 400cc entry-level offering all the way up to a 160hp super bike-engined version. The monster has remained in production for going on 28 years now with upwards of 300,000 examples sold throughout that time and has been rightly called “the bike that saved Ducati”. It has become so popular over the years that in 2005, the Monster alone accounted for over half of Ducati’s worldwide sales. The same attributes of being a powerful easy riding machine that has made it so popular with the average rider are un-ironically the same aspects that make it an excellent machine for track use as well.
The example on offer here, chassis number ZDM1RANN4EB073523, is a 2014 Ducati Monster Race Bike. This motorcycle was commissioned by the owner and built by Moto Corse Performance of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the current owner and consignor’s direct specifications including the Desmosedici bodywork that it still wears today. This particular Monster Race Bike is a highly proven build, with numerous race wins and podiums in the highly competitive AHRMA (American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association) series. It also has the distinct honor of being the first Ducati homologated for the MotoAmerica Twins Class, leaving it with an important and lasting legacy. Originally this track-specific motorcycle was delivered with a stock motor and despite it being extremely competitive in its classes it was quickly determined by the owner that some additional power would be needed in order to keep it at the top of its class in the highly competitive AHRMA series. The motor was pulled and upgraded to 850cc through the incorporation of a new set of Pistal Racing high compression pistons and Superbike Mike heads. A Power Commander was added in addition to a Dyna-Jet quick shift module. A Ducati 797 transmission was installed to aid in quick and decisive shifting. The titanium exhaust was crafted by Ron Mangus of Mangusta Enterprises, to provide for a lightweight and high flowing exhaust solution. A set of BST Racing carbon fiber wheels were added to decrease weight and the addition of a large NCR oil cooler tucked neatly behind the fairing ensured the engine could run at optimal temperatures. The stock Ducati dash was kept in place, however numerous other top-tier components were utilized throughout the bike to ensure that this Monster was able to stay extremely competitive on the track. As it sits today, this 2014 Ducati Monster Race Bike shows no outward needs. It is a thoroughly proven example in the highly competitive AHRMA race series and is immediately ready for competition or personal track day use. As it is a racing machine it does have some very minor imperfections in the paint in few areas and the seat pad shows a bit of wear but overall it presents very well cosmetically. This Ducati has been both lovingly built and professionally maintained by ex-Fast By Ferraci head mechanic Phil Seiberlich so it remains in fantastic, track-ready condition. This 2014 Ducati Monster Race Bike represents the perfect opportunity to acquire a turn-key, track-ready machine that is guaranteed to be both mechanically sound and highly competitive in any open track day or series that is eligible to compete in.
