The Overview

History

In historical terms, the “Vantage” nameplate was used by Aston Martin to denote some of the high-performance variants of their grand tourers. That all changed in 2005, however, when the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was introduced. As a standalone model, the Vantage proved to be one of Aston Martin’s most popular and recognizable cars with a 2009 model year update that made it even better. With changes to the engine, transmission, suspension, and appearance, the Vantage was now even more attractive and more fun to drive.

Apart from the 2009 update, the Vantage saw numerous versions and editions throughout its production run, with one of those being the S. In 2011, Aston Martin introduced the V8 Vantage “S” in both coupe and roadster variants as a more powerful version of the already impressive Vantage. The same 4.7L AJ37 V8 engine from the regular Vantage was modified to make 430 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque, a 10 hp and 14.7 lb-ft increase. That extra power boosted its 0 to 60 mph time to 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 189 mph. Underneath, the bushings, springs, and dampers were stiffened, while the steering rack was also improved to be quicker than in the base model. Visual and aerodynamic enhancements include a deeper front bumper with carbon fiber splitter, larger side sills, a carbon fiber diffuser, a larger trunk lip, and new wheels.

The Vantage S also received the new Sportshift II 7-speed automated manual transmission as standard, although it could still be equipped with the regular 6-speed Graziano manual transmission.

This Car

This particular example, Chassis # SCFEBBDL8DGC17684, is a one-owner example of the V8 Vantage S. It was ordered in the appropriate and fitting color combination of AM British Racing Green over a Chestnut Tan Leather interior with the desirable 6-speed manual transmission. The optional equipment list is extensive and includes the 700W premium audio, red brake calipers, the Vantage exterior pack, black vaned front grille, leather ECU pouch, heated front seats, a second glass key, black meshes, memory seats, black textured tailpipe finisher, comfort suspension, carbon side strakes, a black Alcantara steering wheel, glass switches, an umbrella, and 19-inch V Spoke graphite wheels. The leather, carpet, and Alcantara headliner colors were $1,595, $1,020, and $1,020 options, respectively, while the paint was $3,785. Altogether, the options list totals nearly $25,000, bringing this V8 Vantage S’s MSRP to over $155,000.

The car was imported into the United States from Southampton, England, in April 2013 and sold in October 2013 through Exclusive Automotive Group in Ashburn, Virginia. Throughout the current owners nearly 12-year ownership, this Aston Martin was lovingly enjoyed and thoroughly maintained, with scheduled service visits to Aston Martin Summit in Summit, NJ along with Miller Motorcars of Stamford, CT.

The service history on file starts in June 2014 with a few recall campaigns, when the Aston Martin had its TPM module re-flashed as per Campaign SA-19-0230 and gas pedal replaced as per Campaign RA-03-0017. During a regular service visit in November 2016, Campaign RA-01-0021 was carried out regarding a potentially faulty door unlocking mechanism. Numerous services were performed over the years. In March 2019, Aston Martin Summit performed the sixth annual maintenance, which included fluid flushes, a new drive belt, new filters, new oxygen sensors, as well as new rear bumper molding, bumperettes, mesh grille, and rear diffuser screen.

In October 2021, this V8 Vantage S unfortunately suffered damage from being rear-ended with around 37,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. As noted on the carfax the damage was moderate, if not minor based on the photos we have on file. The repair was completed to a very high standard and left no sign that damage ever occurred, it was primarily cosmetic, a bumper, a light, a little carbon fiber, odds and ends and some paint and it was quickly in order. The latest service record on file at Aston Martin of Summit, NJ, is from April 2025 at 44,411 miles when its oil was changed, and the driver’s side door strut and oxygen sensor were replaced. At some stage during its life, this Vantage S received a Fabspeed exhaust, and in fact, this example was used by Fabspeed to develop their exhaust system for the Aston Martin Vantage.

This is a thoroughly enjoyed but well-maintained and cared-for example of one of Aston Martin’s most reliable and accessible contemporary iterations. Its unique specification and color combination make it very likely that this V8 Vantage S is a one-of-one example, and represents a properly ordered Aston Martin. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive both crystal fobs, a backup key, all of the owner’s manuals, all available service records, a car cover, Aston Martin umbrella, pen, the original wheels, as well as the stock X-Pipe portion of the exhaust.

The Market

The Details

exterior

body and paint

Overall, this example is excellent and a car one can be proud of. It has however seen nearly 45,000 miles and so the flaws it has are commensurate with those miles. It is straight down the sides and all the panels fit well with factory gaps. The AM British Racing Green paint meters between 3.5-9 mils, coupled with our inspection and lack of any evidence of paintwork, we feel this example is original paint throughout with the exception of the rear bumper.

glass and trim

All of the glass appears to be original to the car and in good condition overall with the only exception being the windshield which shows some light peppering and a couple of pencil point sized chips. All of the stainless trim is excellent though the passenger side rear most section shows a very light scuff. All of the carbon components are present and in good condition. Close inspection of the front lip does show some expected flaws/scrapes from entering/exiting parking lots or the like. It could see replacement but if consistent use is intended by the next owner it is wise to keep it as it is since it is minor.

wheels

The original (and optional) wheels are included in the sale, they show some curb rash and could be refinished or used as-is. The current wheels are from a DBS and only the passenger front shows some minor curb rash. They are otherwise straight and with nice center caps.

notable flaws

This car would benefit from a paint correction, but even so some items will remain: The rear wheel arches just behind the passenger door gap show some minor peppering. The headlights show some minor peppering as does the hood and grill. The front bumper has a few small pencil point sized marks and some peppering as well. And we should note that the grill is not the original and is from the earlier or non-S variant (the original is not included) and was preferred by the vendor. Just behind the front wheels at the bottom of the wheel arch/front of the rocker we see some small chipping/peppering. A very small/shallow dent on the hood, a small/light scratch on the passenger rear ¼ and a coupe of small touch ups here or there.

We tried to capture these areas in the photos and request that the photos be reviewed carefully. The items we note are simply commensurate with this cars use and are not from miscare or neglect. Again, none of these are worth addressing and the car should be considered turn key.

interior

seats and surfaces

The interior is impressive and the moment you open the door you know this car is special. Overall the interior is excellent with no major flaws to note. The door panels, kick panels, seats, dash, carpets, center console and dash fascia are all in excellent condition overall. The alcantatra steering wheel, headliner and various trimmed areas are all in excellent condition.

The obvious but minor flaws we note are items we expect with age or are common with these miles. Such as some minor wear on the drivers bolster, some scuffing to the sill plates, some shrinkage that is just beginning on the drivers side of the dash, and a (typical/common) crack at the corner of the LCD screen housing/top dash fascia area. Some sign of use and age on the center console and a less than perfect drivers side floor mat.

functionality and accessories

At the time of testing all of this car’s functions worked as intended. All lighting, HVAC, infotainment, speakers, knobs, pulls, and switches are in proper working order.

engine bay and trunk

engine bay

The engine bay is completely stock, presentable, and shows only minor signs of age or servicing over the years with no issues to report.

trunk area

The trunk area is tidy with the original umbrella and other accessories in their appropriate spot. No issues to note.

Underside

The underside shows a near 45k mile car that has been enjoyed but serviced. A little dirty as expected, but serviceable and with no major issues to note beyond minor cosmetic faults from use. (see photos)

mechanicals

engine

The engine starts instantly, settles down to a calm idle and is responsive with a healthy song throughout the rev range. There are no unwanted noises, no smoking or other issues to report. A well serviced and in order example.

transmission

The clutch operation is smooth with no chattering and feels to still have good life left. The transmission shifts as it should with no grinding or synchro issues noted. In order.

brakes and suspension

The brakes appear to be in good and serviceable condition as of now, however we estimate that they are at around 50% or so and may need tending to in the next few thousand miles. The suspension is otherwise excellent, firm, and with no unwanted noises or squeaks.

tires

The Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 245/35 ZR20 (front) and 305/30 ZR20 (rear) all with 2021 date codes and showing at least 75%+ tread life remaining.

driving experience

The Aston Martin Vantage, generally always feels like value. It is comfortable and reminiscent of fine craftsmanship with its carefully chosen materials and quality of assembly. It is powerful, understated and always seems like the right car no matter what you set out to do in it. This example elevates that experience because of the spec, the exhaust modification and the fact that it is an S with a manual transmission. It is a privilege to enjoy this car no matter how long one gets to do so. The Vantage remains a strong contender for an exotic modern GT car under $100K, this car is hard to beat in every way.
