The Overview
History
The Lamborghini Gallardo was released in 2003 as the second car under parent company Audi after the famed Murcielago. It was initially powered by a 5.0L V10 mated to either a 6-speed Graziano manual or 6-speed e-gear Graziano automated manual transmission. That combination put out 493 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque in its coupe form, but was later upgraded to 513 hp with the same torque figure.
The Gallardo took several forms throughout its production run from 2003 to 2013, including the aforementioned coupe, Spyder, and Superleggera. Several special editions were built as well, including a “Valentino Balboni” edition, named after Lamborghini’s long-time test driver. The Gallardo was replaced in 2014 by the Lamborghini Huracan.
This Car
This particular example, Chassis # ZHWGU12N66LA03102, is an well-optioned first-generation Gallardo Coupe. The 5.0-liter V10 is backed by the legendary and seldom seen gated 6-speed manual transmission, which sends power to all four wheels. Some of the factory options include 2-piece Callisto alloy wheels ($3,250), Lamborghini Branding Package ($910), which added the Lamborghini script logo on the dashboard & the Lamborghini shield logo on the headrests, a front lift, silver-painted brake calipers ($850), electric seats ($2,990), heated seats ($350), glass engine cover ($5,800), Alcantara roof & pillar lining ($1,040), car cover ($414) and navigation ($3,510).
As extensive as that options list is, the color choices are what really set this Gallardo apart. The Blu Caelum exterior paint job is seldom seen on Gallardos of this era, and it perfectly matches the equally rare Bicolor Sportivo Alcantara/Leather interior ($1,815). All in all, this car has over $19,000 in options on top of the $175,000 MSRP.
This Gallardo was built in Germany as a US-spec car before being imported into Providence, RI, before making its way to Alfa Romeo and Fiat of San Diego in January 2006. The car was registered to its first owner in New Jersey in October of that year with 135 miles on the odometer.
Under its first ownership, this Gallardo was frequently serviced at Prestige Imports in North Miami, FL. Its first service, with 3,258 miles, was in June 2010 for a new battery. It returned in June 2011 with 4,011 miles for the scheduled service, another new battery, and two new tires. After this 2011 service, the car was driven sparingly, racking up a few miles between service visits.
In February 2012, it had 4,326 miles when it was treated to an oil change. In May of that same year, it received regular maintenance, new wipers, and a new charcoal canister at 4,385 miles. The Gallardo made its way to Prestige Imports two more times before its last service of the year in December 2012 for two new tires and a power steering system service.
There are no services on file in 2013 other than a pre-delivery inspection at Paul Miller GT of Parsippany, NJ, in October, with 5,388 miles on the odometer. That inspection was likely to prepare the car for sale at Marshall Goldman Motor Sales of Cleveland, OH, in February 2014. The car was in inventory until June, when it was sold to its second owner and moved to Montana.
There are no service or mileage records on file for this second owner. They took care of this Gallardo until October 2016, when it was sold to its third owner in Utah. We have no service records from them either, but we know the car was offered for sale through Bring a Trailer in November 2018 with 12,550 miles. An oil change, professional paint correction, and detail were reportedly performed before the auction, and the nose/front fenders were treated to a clear bra. The Gallardo sold to a fourth owner in Pennsylvania before LBI Limited brokered the car to it’s current owner in 2019. Between then and the present day, the car was driven sparingly but always received timely oil changes and was carefully stored.
As it sits, this is an extremely low mileage and well-optioned example of one of Lamborghini’s most recognizable cars post-VW acquisition. 14,022 examples of the Gallardo were built across both generations from 2003 to 2013, with only 626 of those being 2006 model-year coupes. The extensive list of options that totals over $19,000 and the rare color scheme are the defining factors here, ensuring you’ll stand out on any Concours lawn or any Lamborghini club event. A very rare and desirable Gallardo.
Upon purchase, the new owner will receive the original owner’s book and manual, two keys, a car cover, the original toolkit, and fix-a-flat canister as delivered new.
The Market
The Details
exterior
body and paint
This Gallardo is offered in a rare shade of Blue not often seen. In the right light the purples really come through. We can report that this car is original paint with the exception of the drivers door which can only be distinguished by the use of a paint meter - otherwise it shows no signs. We do know the front bumper was also repainted as we did so in preparing it for sale to remedy some minor scrapes to the underside. As such there is a clear bra on the headlights and hood, but not on the front bumper.
Otherwise the car is straight down the sides with no dents to note and all panel gaps factory with no issues.
glass and trim
The glass appears to all be the original factory installed units with the windshield showing a small chip in the center (out of view of the driver position) along with a coupe of pencil point sized marks.
wheels
The wheels retain their factory finish and are largely unblemished. With the only issue worth noting being that of the passenger side center cap which is showing some minor delaminating on the logo.
notable flaws
There are but a few minor items to note. The drivers door, center-top shows a small scratch/chip. The rear wheel arch edges have some minor chips and the front wheel arch under edges have some minor peppering - all of which do not require attention and tend to be common on any car of this nature. Lastly we see a small, barely noticeable chip on the corner of each door handle.
interior
seats and surfaces
The interior is nearly new, smells of leather and alcantara and has but a few signs of age. A few light scuffs to the sill from entry and egress on the drivers side. Some light scratching to the shifter ball. Some scratching/wear to the drivers side horizontal portion of the center console. Lastly, a one inch section closest to the driver near the toggle panel is delaminating and a few buttons feel like they are starting to get sticky. None of these items are worth addressing for now as they are minor.
functionality and accessories
Everything on this Gallardo is in correct working order. All knobs, toggles, switches, stalls etc… function without issue including all HVAC systems, lighting or otherwise. We have noticed that the Nav screen flickers occasionally when cold, otherwise no issues to note.
engine bay and trunk
engine bay
The engine bay presents wonderfully and strong with no crack free plastics and correct crinkle coatings, clamps and finishes in all the right places. The engine cover struts work well and overall there is nothing to report.
trunk area
The front trunk is tidy, factory with accessories and CD changer in their respective spots. The only issue is the front trunk light which does function but seems to have a plastic clip that has snapped causing it to fit loosely.
mechanicals
engine
This Gallardo starts easily, settles down to a consistent idle and revs freely with no smoke or unwanted noises. A strong V10 with no issues to note, making great power, staying cool and showing strong oil pressure and appropriate temperature.
transmission
The 6-Speed Manual transmission and clutch are without any complaints functioning exactly as intended and quite visceral to use. We believe the clutch to be the original.
brakes and suspension
The brakes remain within spec and operate as intended with no pulling, warping or other issue to report in their functioning.
tires
The tires are Pirelli P Zero 235/35 ZR19 (front) and 295/30 ZR19 (rear) with date codes from 2014 on all 4. While there is usable tread life and the tires feel mostly supple we would recommend the next owner have new tires installed.
driving experience
The Gallardo is an amazing experienced filled with cammy engine noises, clicky gear shifts and the reliable grip from the AWD. It almost feels like you could use it every day, a very easy-to-live-with exotic car that begs to be taken seriously as the practical German car that it is under its Italian good looks. This Gallardo is THE Gallardo to have with its unique (maybe one of one?) spec.
