The Overview
History
The Porsche 964 hit the scene in 1989 as a replacement for the aging “G-Body” cars that had been produced since 1974. The 964 was largely similar in design to its predecessor, but sported more integrated bumpers and less pronounced headlight surrounds. It was also the first model to offer the Tiptronic automatic transmission and all–wheel drive as options, with cars featuring the latter receiving the “Carrera 4” designation. The rear spoiler was also power-operated, automatically raising at speeds over 50 mph for better downforce and lowering flush with the rear hood at lower speeds.
The engine was also new for this generation of Porsche. Dubbed the M64, this naturally-aspirated 3.6L flat-six made 247 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque through either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The suspension was also revised, with coil springs and shock absorbers in place of torsion bars, as well as standard power steering and ABS. North American examples produced after 1990 also received standard dual airbags. In all, 62,172 units of the 964 were produced from 1989 to 1994 in many different variations.
This Car
This particular example, Chassis # WPOCB2962RS460255, is a 1994 Carrera 2 finished in black with a matching black top and a black partial leather interior. The car sits on 17-inch light five-spoke Turbo Design wheels and was optioned with the AM/FM radio with CD player, a dark rootwood shift knob and matching parking brake handle, Porsche crest wheel caps, heated seats, and power driver’s seat. Altogether, these options added an extra $4,355 to the MSRP, bringing the total price to $79,270.
This 911 was delivered to Autohaus Lancaster via the Port of Charleston before being registered in April 1994 in York, PA. The first owner regularly maintained the car and enjoyed it to the fullest, adding almost 6,400 miles per a service in May 1999 at Autohaus, where it was originally purchased. That dealership would serve as this 911’s main point of service until the owner moved to Keysville, VA, in May 2006, with 9,690 miles on the odometer.
In January 2012, after nearly 18 years of ownership, the 911 made its way to its second owner since new, with just over 9,900 miles on the odometer. The miles began accumulating more slowly as the car was driven sparingly, though it continued to pass its yearly safety inspections. In March 2021, it was sold to its third and current owner. Shortly after, in March 2021, the car was fitted with a new set of front and rear speakers, along with a 4-ohm bass blocker. In February 2022, at 12,648 miles, Abacus Racing in Virginia Beach, VA, performed an oil change, a thorough inspection, installed new hood and deck lid struts, new wipers, and new Continental Extreme Contact tires. More recently a PPI was completed in anticipation of its sale and the undercarriage dry-ice blasted, all courtesy of Leading Edge Autosport in West Chester, PA. Autocar Bespoke completed a comprehensive detail whereby the all too common faded/cracked rear lights and “Carrera 2” script were also replaced in preparation for sale.
As it sits, this is a very well-maintained example of one of Porsche’s more modern 911s with just under 17,000 miles on the odometer and only 3 careful owners from new. It remains mostly unmodified from its factory configuration, with the exception of the aftermarket speakers. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive all of the owner’s manuals, window sticker, boot cover and bag, toolkit, spare, air pump and available records.

The Details
exterior
body and paint
The presentation of this 964 is nothing short of excellent and can be described as highly original and well preserved. Meter readings and our inspection indicate original paint throughout. The finish is mirror-like though some factory orange peel also remains in areas. The gaps and panel fitment are factory and have not been altered. The car is straight down the sides as well.
glass and trim
The glass remains the original factory glass, the top rear window is clear with no issues and all of the trim on the car is original and has not faded. We see no cracks to any lenses or reflectors, the rubber is supple and in good condition throughout.
wheels
The wheels retain their factory finish and feel true/straight while driving. Some of the wheels have a minor blemish here or there upon close inspection with the passenger front wheel showing the most imperfections in the way of some light peppering/scratching as photographed.
notable flaws
We do see flaws, primarily on the front half of the vehicle. There is light peppering on the hood with a small pencil point sized chip on the hood, headlight surround and cowl. A couple of small scrapes to the lower section of the front bumper as photographed and the drivers door edge and mirror also show some very minor blemishes as photographed. The driver's door also shows a small chip toward the front of the door. The windscreen shows light peppering as well. Lastly, we have noticed a small burn in the paint from previous detailing/buffing, found just under the drives side front quarter/vent window. All of these items would not warranty any refinishing and are minor overall. It would never be worth trading the original paint status of this car to fix such minute imperfections.
interior
seats and surfaces
The interior remains virtually flawless and in factory correct condition with the exception of an updated but correct style Blaupunkt head unit. The sills are clean, as are the james, the carpets, kick panels, underside of the dash, center console, dash, dash fascia, seat backs, carpets, soft top roof underside etc… are all in excellent original condition with no issues to note.
functionality and accessories
The interior functionality seems to be in order with the seat buttons working upon testing, the HVAC system in order and functioning as intended. The upgraded stereo works very well and all gauges, switches, knobs etc… function as intended. The roof goes up and down with no issues as do the windows and spoiler. All lighting is functional and no issues are noted.
engine bay and trunk
engine bay
The engine bay presents as factory-correct as one would hope. Correct clamps, coatings and overall presentation with original stickers and labels still in place throughout.
trunk area
The trunk area is of the same quality, removing the factory carpet shows a clean nearly new front trunk compartment with nothing out of place or issues to note. The original options sticker remains clearly visible as do all the matching VIN stickers throughout the rest of the car.
Underside
The underside benefits from a comprehensive recent dry-ice blasting revealing factory finishes and near medically clean surfaces. Everything appears to be stock, straight, and without any real issues to note.
mechanicals
engine
The engine starts instantly, runs strong, does not smoke or make any unwanted noises with performance abundant. It retains strong oil pressure under throttle and stays cool.
transmission
The transmission and clutch work well together with no issues to note. The clutch feels as if it has plenty of life left and the synchros are all in excellent condition. Shifting is easy with no issues to note.
brakes and suspension
The brakes work well with no pulling or warping felt in the pedal. The suspension is appropriately firm with no noises and remains tight as does the steering.
tires
The tires are Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06+ 205/50ZR17 (front) and 255/40ZR17 (rear) with date codes of 2022 and 2021 on all 4 corners.
driving experience
The 964 generation of Porsche gives that bit of refinement some look for in the G-Body. This final iteration of the Carrera 2 Cabriolet provides the exact comfort and open air motoring only this car can provide. Wonderful on demand power with plenty of torque, capable chassis, suspension and steering for more aggressive driving. All with no driver aides to interrupt the very analog experience. This car is a delight to drive, needs nothing, and will easily be a reliable fun-filled experience for any day of the week.
