The Overview

History

When the Ferrari F355 rolled off the assembly line in 1994, it was a clear departure from the previous Ferrari 348. The 80s-style side strakes and hard angles were gone, giving way to modern 90s curves. The rear mid-engine configuration remained, but the V8 received a displacement increase to 3.5 L along with a new 5-valve cylinder head for a max of 375 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. That engine could be mated to a 6-speed manual or F1 automated manual transmission.

A few variants of the F355 were produced, including the Berlinetta, the convertible Spider, the Targa-top GTS, and the race-spec Challenge. 11,273 units were produced between 1994 and 1999.

This Car

This particular example, Chassis # ZFFPR41A9S0102470, is a 6-speed manual F355 Berlinetta finished in the classic shade of Rosso Corsa with a contrasting brown Connolly leather interior. Of the 4,871 Berlinettas produced, 3,829 were equipped with manual transmission. This example was brought in by FNA through the Port of Newark destined for Ferrari of Monterey, CA, before being sold to its first owner in Texas on February 5, 1996.

Throughout the early 2000s, this F355 was enjoyed and meticulously maintained by its first owner, with frequent visiting Shottenkirk Jaguar Land Rover Boerne in Boerne, TX. The recommended 30,000-mile service was performed in March 2001 at 19,702 miles. In April 2003, it was sold to its second owner, also a Texas resident, with 23,586 miles on the odometer.

One of the key service records on file from the second owner is from Pinnacle Motorsports in April 2004, when this F355 received the essential valve guide replacement job at 26,347 miles. Following that service, the car was sold to its third Texas owner sometime in mid to late 2005. This third owner enjoyed the car for nearly two years but drove it sparingly, noting 27,791 miles in April 2006. Around March 2007, a fourth Texas owner bought the car and owned it for the next 11 years.

The F355 continued to be driven and maintained, with frequent service visits to Eagle Racing in Austin, TX. In September 2008, the A/C compressor and its related accessories were replaced. In March 2009, a major service was performed, including cam cover gaskets and seals and spark plug o-rings. In March 2011, Ferrari of Houston repaired the transmission, which was later installed by Eagle Racing at around 32,000 miles. The car also underwent a few body shop repairs, which required the engine to be removed, at which point it received new belts, hoses, and lines where needed. Eagle Racing refinished the oil tank that same month.

In May 2013, Moorespeed of Austin, TX, performed a few miscellaneous repairs, including replacing the entire climate control ECU. In November 2017, Moorespeed performed the 30,000-mile service again at 36,394 miles, which included a water pump, timing belts, valve cover gaskets and seals, and new radiator and heater hoses. During that same service, the exhaust manifolds, timing belt tensioner, and thermostat were replaced.

In July 2018, Ferrari of Houston serviced the transmission at 36,614 miles to address a reverse gear issue. That same month, a rear Challenge grill was ordered and installed. After its longest ownership on file, the Ferrari was sold in August 2018 to its fifth and most recent Texas owner, with around 37,000 miles.

In July 2019, the F355 underwent a major two-month service at Autosport by GMP in Novato, CA. This service involved replacing the timing belt, gaskets, seals, and fluids, installing new radiators, a new heat exchanger, all four CV boots, new engine and gearbox mounts, a new rear shock actuator, new power steering pump hoses, new drive shaft seals, a new ignition switch, and an A/C compressor bushing. The last service on file is a new battery in January 2023.

As it sits, this is a very well taken care of Ferrari F355 with just over 40,000 miles on the odometer. None of its previous owners spared any expense when it came to services, ensuring that any issue no matter how minor was tended to promptly, the hallmark of proper care for a Ferrari. The few blemishes it has are simply age-related and something to be expected from a 30-year-old car.

If the regular maintenance is continued, there is no reason why this classic Italian sports car shouldn’t provide its future owner with many more years of motoring thrills. The F355 is one of the most recognizable Ferrari models, known for its drivability in any kind of traffic or weather conditions and that high-pitch exhaust note reminiscent of an F1 car. F355’s are fantastic to use regularly and are easy to drive “normal” cars in a way.

Upon purchase, the new owner will receive all of the service records on file, the original owner’s manuals and booklets, as well as the original window sticker and tool kit.
