The Overview

History

When it was introduced in 1989, the Ducati 750 Sport was a combination of many elements lifted from Ducati’s heritage. It used the distinctive triangular ‘trellis’ frame made famous by the F1 a few years prior and an evolution of the 748cc V-Twin motor first used in the Ducati Pantah. In this use, it produced 72 hp with the aid of a 44mm Weber 44DCNF 113 carburetor.

Benefiting from a 5-speed transmission and a Marzocchi telescopic fork in the front and an adjustable monoshock & cantilever swingarm combo in the rear. Its top speed was reportedly 130 mph, which, considering it only weighed around 400 lbs, made it a speedy rider in everyday conditions. Dual Brembo disc brakes up front, and a single disc in the rear provided the stopping power.

The Ducati 750 Sport was a brief instance in Ducati’s history with information about its production figures and market reception being fairly scarce online. Depending on the source, Ducati produced between 1000 to 1300 examples of the 750 Sport in its one year run from 1989 to 1990, making it a pretty rare bike. Especially with only 400 units reportedly being delivered to the US.

This Motorcycle

This particular example, Chassis # ZDM1KA3J9LB752270, is a respectable example that we have kept in our storage for the past few years having purchased it from a local collector in 2019 who stored the bike since apx. 2013. Prior to that it was in long term ownership in Nevada. Unfortunately, much like the story of the 750 Sport model as a whole and more generally Cagiva era Ducati’s, this particular example’s history has also been lost to time. The previous owner mentioned that the bike had been used for the cover story in the December 1989 issue of Cycle World, but we have no way of proving that.

The odometer shows 14,290 miles on the odometer but given its time in storage, it will need proper servicing performed to get it back on the road and up to date. As it sits, this is a very rare example of Ducati’s sport bike history from the 1990s.Given the low mileage and overall good condition means that with some servicing, this 750 Sport will be a worthwhile acquisition and addition to any collection. If the reportedly low production numbers are true, its next owner can rest assured that they will likely be the only one with such a bike at any organized gathering. Included in the sale are any of the service records on file as well as the framed Cycle World article it was supposedly featured in, as well as an extra fairing and gas tank.
