The Overview

Rare and powerful with captivating and disrupting looks, the Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series shook up the automotive world when it was released in 2007. With its 500 horsepower 6.2 liter V8, the Black series packed some serious pavement pounding performance, pushing the raucous looking coupe to a 0-60 time around 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 186 miles per hour. With only 350 examples produced for the North American market, the CLK63 AMG Black Series has the rarity to back up its excellent performance as well.

This particular 2008 Black Series, chassis number WDBTJ77H38F247583, has covered 15,835 miles since new. The car has only a few slight modifications which include evosport headers, evosport exhaust, evosport ECU tune, tastefully integrated passport radar detector and nicely finished Alcantara headliner. It is finished in Black with a black leather interior. The car is all original paint except for the front lip which was resprayed by us. The car has a clean carfax, stating 1 previous owner. There is not a great deal included as far as service history but it appears the car was routinely looked after by qualified shops in the New England area according to the CarFax.

The exterior of the car shows fairly well. The black paint is fairly smooth and consistent across the entirety of the body. The car was paint metered upon arriving with us and the meter readings are consistent across the car, leading us to believe that the paint is original to the car. There is some stone chipping on the front bumper and the forward section of the hood. The rear wheel flares are unfortunately road dirt and rock magnets and are therefore peppered fairly heavily with rock chips. It is our feeling that the paint on the fenders could be left as is, for the fact that it doesn’t detract from the visual appearance of the car but one could easily go about respraying this portion should they choose. The rest of the car is clean and consistent with the mileage. The glass all around has tint on it but remains free of any cracks, chips or pitting. All trim pieces ad and plastic items on the exterior are in good serviceable condition.

Aside from the Alcantara headliner, the interior is exactly how it would have left the factory. The seats are in good shape, the deep-set bolsters showing minimal wear and the seating surfaces clean and free of any issues. All gauges and switches function as they should. The carbon fiber trim that surrounds the cockpit is in excellent condition free of fading, peeling etc. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is clean and in good shape. The rear seats are absent in an effort to help save some weight, leaving the clean sculpted bucket like shapes in place covered in carpet that complements the rest of the interior. The passport radar detector is integrated tastefully into the dash, set between the two air vents and while it was not tested, it appears to be in functioning condition. Aside from a few small wear marks on typically high usage areas the interior presents clean and clear and is a delightful and well thought out place to pilot the car from. The deep bolsters of the seats are especially welcoming when maneuvering the 500HP rear wheel drive animal through the corners.

The engine bay is clean and presents well. The carbon fiber cover is slightly discolored, most likely from the heat of the engine, but is straight and crack free. The rest of the engine bay is in tidy order with all hoses, lines, and accessories appearing to be in good functioning order. The trunk area displays as a 16K mile car should, with the carpet free from any tears or discoloration.

The car barks to life with a startling growl. The aftermarket headers and exhaust really wake up the sound of the 6.2L V8. The car settles into a smooth idle and the exhaust quiets just a bit. The engine revs freely and the transmission engages gears smoothly. Out on the road the car shifts between gears deliberately and smooth. Throttle response is amazing and the noise coming out the tailpipes is intoxicating! The brakes work exceptionally well and the steering is smooth and direct. It should be noted that there is currently a check engine light on due to the aftermarket headers. The codes that the system is throwing are as follows:

P0156-O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

P0420-Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

P0136-O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

P0430-Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

This should be an easy fix for any qualified tuner shop to take care of and the check engine light in no way effects the performance of the car.

The CLK63 AMG Black Series represents something truly interesting in the automobile world. It is a finely tailored suit made of carbon fiber, begging to be worn into a bar fight. Its the definition of a German muscle car, built for storming the Autobahn at ludicrous speeds. With its aggressive styling, pavement-pounding performance, and limited run production, the CLK63 AMG Black Series is destined to punch its way into the pantheon of collector cars.

This car is offered with the factory manuals and the original window sticker.
