The Overview

Throughout the years, MV Agusta has gone through many ups and downs as a company. Right from the beginning, in 1948, they established themselves as a dominant force in the motorcycle Grand Prix racing world, winning on their first outing with a 125cc two-stroke example. MV Agusta would go on to have immense success in many forms of motorcycle racing as well as in the sales of their street-based motorcycles, all the way up to 1971 when the guiding force of the company, Count Domenico Agusta, passed away. Without its companies namesake, MV Agusta fell on hard times and was eventually bought out and closed up shop, selling their last motorcycle in 1980.

In 1991 Cagiva purchased the MV Agusta name and set about on plans to rebuild the company. They launched their first modern MV in 1998, titled the F4 Series, with Massimo Tamburini heading up the design. The F4’s initially comprised a 750cc inline liquid cooled engine and some seriously impressive technology such as a magnesium swingarm and wheels. Much like everything with the Tamburini name attached to it, people instantly fell in love with the looks of the F4. While the F4 750 received many praises from the public, it was universally held as being slightly underpowered compared to its packed class of competitors.

To help fix the lack of power, MV Agusta introduced the F4 1000 in 2005. In its introductory “1000” form, the MV produced 166-horsepower at 11,750 RPM from its 998 cc liquid cooled inline four cylinder engine and kept its familiar and gorgeous Tamborini styling. The 1000 would ride on 50mm inverted Marzocchi forks in the front and Sachs adjustable suspension in the rear. The performance was certainly a strong point now as the new engine allowed the F4 to hit a factory proven top speed of 180 miles per hour. The F4-1000 would go through many “special” iterations, much like the 750 before it and while the colors and options changed throughout the years, the performance only got better, and the drop dead gorgeous looks continued to stun the motorcycle world. The F4 series remains in production and still sits at the top of the MV Agusta lineup as one of the most powerful and beautiful things on two wheels

This particular MV Agusta is a 2005 F4-1000 model and currently displays a mere 245 miles on the odometer. It was purchased from the original owner and the mileage is absolutely authentic backed up by the provided service records. It lived its entire life in the dry climate of Scottsdale, Arizona and was barely used as evident by the mileage. Servicing was performed by Go AZ Motorcycles of Scottsdale, Arizona. Service records begin in 2010 at which point an annual service was completed and both the tires and the battery were replaced. It was noted in the service records that “The bike has been in storage for a long time.” The Battery was replaced again in June of 2012 at which time the mileage was noted as 193. The most recent records indicate a full annual service completed in February of 2016, as well as a new battery and fuel lines. Mileage at last servicing was noted at 242 miles.

The exterior of the bike is in relatively excellent shape, per the mileage. It should be noted however that according to the previous owner, the bike tipped over in his garage when he lost his balance, causing some scraping to the left side plastics (viewable in photos). The damage is still evident on the motorcycle but could be repaired should the new owner choose to pursue this option. Detailed photos are provided of the damaged areas. The paint over the rest of the bike is in fantastic shape and in line with the displayed mileage. All factory applied stickers and decals are still in place with no evidence of peeling or discoloration. The “cockpit” of the bike is in neat and tidy condition with grips and switchgear showing no wear. The gauge face is bright and scratch free. The gauge itself functions as it should, displaying all pertinent information as needed. All the lights and turn signals are in functioning condition and display excellent cosmetically. The seat condition is reminiscent of the mileage, showing next to no wear.

Mechanically, this MV is in excellent shape. While the previous owner did not use the bike, he kept it serviced and in proper running and riding condition. There are no visible leaking components, cracked hoses, or worn running gear. The MV fires right to life with a quick prod of the starter and idles fine with a little help from the choke until engine temperatures begin to rise. Given the current mileage of the motorcycle, it has not been test ridden but all mechanical components seem to be in excellent working condition. Both the front and rear brakes engage and seem to be providing adequate stopping power. The throttle functions as it should and the clutch engages properly as well. Audio of the startup and idle are provided above.

This is an excellent opportunity to own what many consider one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever penned. The classic Tamburnini design, the sweeping 4 into 4 exhaust, the top level performance values and the historic MV Agusta name all combine to ensure that the series F4 motorcycles will remain highly desirable for ages to come. This next-to-no mileage example is sure to be the F4-1000 that any collector or enthusiast will be looking for to round out their collection. Included in the sale are this motorcycle’s factory tools, manual, two keys, factory advertisement and the provided service records.
